    3. Gill, I know you'll find this hard to believe, but people (men and women) did lie about their ages in the census - bear that in mind! I've found folk that only aged 5 or 6 years per census which is a good trick and I on;y wish I knew how to do it! I thought I had found her baptism in 1837 in South Hayling but the 1861 census gives her age about 3/4 years younger (therefore about 1840/41) and lists Portsea as her birthplace. I was wondering whether there were two Ellen Bellingers in the area at the time.
