We also had a problem Tom as we had to change our laptp which meant we had windows XP. Is this the problem possibly? Alternatively,have you tried www.familysearch.org free go there and click on advanced and you have the option of the 1881 census. Apparently you can do a search without a surname on there and just by putting in an occupation if you wish to (in case anyone didn'tknow a ueful tip possibly). Hope this helps a little Tom.
