Is anyone researching ALLEN, in Steventon? From the 1881 census, Charles Allen, born Overton, age 50. In 1901 census Charles Allen ( head) and Amelia Allen ( grand daughter ). I have the marriage certificate of Amelia Jane Allen to Alfred North, at Steventon, in 1901, her father's name was not given, a witness was Charles Allen. Thanks Alf Damp Ryde IOW

Hi Alf - this doesn't really answer your question but in 1871 Charles ALLEN has a daughter Fanny aged 16 yrs. In 1881 Fanny ALLEN 26, born Steventon, is in the Basingstoke Union workhouse with an infant Amelia ALLEN aged 1 yr. Amelia's birthplace is listed as Basing. In 1891 it seems Fanny, still single, may be in London. There are only two Amelia ALLENs that I can see of the right age in 1891. One is living in St Mary Bourne with grandmother Maria COLE, and the other is a scholar at a Licenced Victualler School in Lambeth, London, birthplace listed as England. From Google searching it seems this school was for the children of those working in the licenced trade so not sure if this would be your girl. Sorry I can't be more definite.
