    3. To add to David Parker's notes: The 1851 Religious Census lists the chapel as Salem Chapel, Independent, and states that it was erected in 1817 in lieu of a house opened 1812. Kelly's Directory 1899 lists it as a Congregational Chapel. The chapel is not listed in Kelly's Directory 1923. As David says, marriages between 1753 and 1837 would have taken place in an Anglican church. Marriages in the chapel may have started sometime during the 19th century, but any marriages before 1898 would have been conducted in the presence of a Registrar, and recorded in the registers of the relevant Register Office. Baptism registers 1815-1836 for the chapel are at The National Archives under reference RG 4/625. The entries should be in the IGI / Family Search.
