    3. Just to add my bit...my dad (b. 1900) was the youngest boy in his family (Tasmania), and my mother came out from England in 1911, aged 10. I am sure they both felt "exiled" from extended families - living up here in Queenland, and I am the beneficiary of all their loving memores of extended families. My g.g. grandad was John Newland ("The Trumpeter" of Selborne) and when I was coming to England in 1988, dad said "Put a rose on great grandfather's grave for me"..which I did - under the old yew tree n the churchyard. Visiting Sheffield, Yks., a couple of years ago, I met a young man in my children's age group - he and I are descended from brothers, and we appear to be the only ones deeply interested in being "The Storytellers"! We have been able to help each other such a lot, with my mother's stories (which always proved to be accurate) and his keen interest. I was able to tell him that his great great grandad used to pick two flowers , wrap the stems in silver paper and present them to my mother and grandmother when they visited. His face lit up and he said..Yes, he did grow flowers! I know these are little things, but the sharing of the personal bits is lovely. I was also able to provide a photo of my great grandmother - who died when my grandmother was only 5, in 1880 - to descendents of her first marriage who hadn't even known her name before that. That was the most wonderful thing I could have done for my mother, I think Hope I haven't bored anyone.
