Hi all whoever and wherever you are in the world. How about we suggest 2 things to start things going on the lists. 1. We ALL ask for something to be checked on or smashed down in the genealogical sense of course) and each time someone does that that person gets a favour returned for them in the form of a look up or a name and it keeps on going so we all get something out of .......call it santa arriving early! 2. We ALL post a family history story of some sort of our own fact of course we all have at least one. Look forward to seeing you all. Take care,Linda and Tony
I would do a lookup in all census 1851 - 1901 for Hampshire (including the Isle of Wight) for one family (I would do a complete sweep of the census from 1851 to 1901, unfortunately I do not have the 1841 census for Hampshire yet but would do the same in Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset or Devon and include the 1841 census if anyone preferred that). I would just need to know as much as possible about the family in 1901. Or I live in Ottawa, Canada so could look up items in the archives if that is something that would be preferred. In return I would really appreciate it if someone could look up Joseph Blake in the Andover register. His date of baptism from the BVRI 2nd ed is 21 Oct 1730 and his parents Thomas Blake and Ann. (A Thomas Blake and Ann Carter are married at Penton Mewsey 8 Sep 1728 or are Thomas and Ann married at Andover where Joseph is baptized? Several times I have found that the LDS have a marriage at Andover and Penton Mewsey for the same couple. Both Blake and Carter are fairly common names in Hampshire. Do they have other children?). Joseph's marriage to Joanna King is in the Upper Clatford Register 8 Jun 1757. The Upper Clatford register says that Joseph's abode is Andover. None of the Blake children in this family received the name Joseph (Joseph died when he was 37 years old). His son Thomas is my great great great grandfather. Joseph is common in the Blake families in Wiltshire and Somerset and not so common in Hampshire anyway. Dear Linda and Tony, Good idea - as usual! Have been beating my brains - and Genes Reunited 1861 census - and any other ideas I have - to find this family: George James LANE, born Newchurch (?) 1832 - almost certainly son of William Lane and Kezia KENT - married Ellen SHEATH(born 1837 Thorley) in July 1856 in St George's Arreton. He was a "Coastguard man". In 1860, when he registered his son's birth, George was living at Dibden, a Stoker, HMS Dauntless. Their first child, Ellen Jane was born Portsea 1857, and the next one, William, in Dibden in 1859. There were later ones, born in East Cowes. I have them in 1871, 1881, 1891. But no sign in 1861. I think they were most likely somewhere in Hampshire in 1861, but could have been elsewhere - have tried widening the search, but no luck. If anyone can help that would be great. Can't offer a lot in return - I don't have fiches/fiche reader - but will do local Sussex research - Worthing library has a lot of Sussex information. Hampshire names on my husband/children's tree: LANE, TAYLOR, BRIDGES, FRAMPTON, REEKS, DEACON, REEVES, HUTCHIN(G)S, PITT, TANNER, CORBIN, RODGERS, WARNE, CLASBY, COMPTON, SILLEY, SCOVELL Best wishes to all, Liz At 19:39 27/11/2005, you wrote: >Hi all whoever and wherever you are in the world. >How about we suggest 2 things to start things going on the lists. >1.
