Dear Listers, I am trying to find Frederick Walker who married Jane Maria Stockwood in Cowbridge, Glam in 1871. He died young in 1881, aged 36, in Portsea, where his five children were all born. So Jane Maria was a widow living with her parents in Cowbridge at the time of the 1881 census. Can anyone on the list find Frederick Walker in 1871? The marriage was in the March Qtr. so he might not yet be married at the time of the 1871 census. I am only assuming that he came from Portsea or thereabouts, as to date I have found no information about him. Many thanks for any help. Margaret Sanders from Wiltshire
Hi Margaret - Frederick is already married in the 1871 census: Portsea Albany Road, St Donats Frederick WALKER 26 Solicitor. B Portsea, Hants Jane Maria 24 B Cowbridge, Glamorganshire Lucy HARDING 17 B Southsea, Hants. In 1861 there is an entry which may be useful: Portsmouth Samuel S TOREY 39 Manager of Hants Telegraph and ?? Paper. B Spitalfieds, Middlesex Caroline 44. B Portsmouth Frank WALKER 19 Son in law. Articled to Architect. B Portsea Frederic WALKER 17. Articled to Lawyer. B Portsea Fanny PHILLIPS 20 House servant. B Wooton, Hants In 1871 the entry is: Samuel J? TOREY 46 Manager of Newspaper. B Spitalfieds, MSX Caroline 51. B Portsmouth Elizabeth 23 Dau/Unm B shoreditch, MSX Florence A STOCKWOOD 12 Visitor. B Cowbridge, Glam. Elizabeth STOCKLEY 17 Domestic servant. B Corfe Castle, Dorset On looking around FreeBMD I think it is probably Samuel Loseby/Losely TOREY. He married Eunice Ann PRICE in 1849 Bethnal Green and Eunice died 1854 Reg Market Drayton. There is a marriage for a Caroline WALKER in 1859 Farnham but unfortunately no spouse comes up. Hope this helps a little.
