Hi, My name is Cecil VIVIAN of St John's, Newfoundland, Canada. My gg/grandfather Richard VIVIAN was married at Trinity, Newfoundland, in 1828 and his marriage record states that he came from Powerstock, near Bridport, Gt. Britain. Extensive research by myself and other VIVIAN researchers in England over 30 years has failed to find any reference to him. A recent magazine article about DNA testing has prompted me to organize such a project on the VIVIAN surname the initial object of which was to try to determine where Richard might fit into the vast amount of data that has been collected over the years. But this new tool for Family History Research also has the potential for linking up branches of any surname wherever it may be found. To date some testing has been done on two branches in Dorset and one in Newfoundland, Canada. Work is in progress on testing two branches in Cornwall, one in Hampshire, and another in Newfoundland.
