    3. I am resending this query - seems it was sent before I finished what I wanted to know because none of the baptisms & marriages are on the IGI. I have been working on my Couzen family tree. My 7 gg, John Couzens appears in Havant for sure with his burial 8 Oct 1701 but I do not know where John came from. His baptism/marriage is not on the IGI. ( I have the following generations down to the present.) My 6gg is John Cosens (& variants!) baptism is also not on IGI. He married Mary POLLINGTON 4 Sep 1699 at Portsmouth. Their 1st child is born in Havant 1702. So both father John and son John seem to first appear in Havant by 1701. Query 1 : Is Mary Pollington baptised in Portsmouth - is it possible to get b/m/d for 1670 - 1750? Query 2: Are there Couzens (and variants) also at Portsmouth/Portsea during the 1670's -1750's? It seems many people married at Portsea or Portsmouth but they are not from that parish. Do they usually marry in the wife's parish? Fingers Crossed - GAIL in Ontario Their 1st child is born in Havant 1702. So both father John and son John appear in Havant 1701. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Hi Gail, I have lived in Havant all my life but was born in Portsmouth. I have been doing quite a bit of research into the Bible Christians in Portsmouth as my family were members. Looking at the original registers, there was a Reverend T. Couzens in the early 1800's also, I noticed several families who lived in places like Hayling who baptised there children in Portsea, here's one for an example: Bible Christian Portsea Mission Thomas, Son of George Cox, Mariner- parish of Hayling, county of Southampton and of Mary his wife, daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Beddell born 29 June 1830, baptised 12 September 1830 at Hayling. And another example: Eliza, daughter of John Smith of Titchfield, husbandman and Elizabeth daughter of Wm and Martha Cawte born 2 Oct 1834, baptised 19 Oct 1834 at her parent's house in the village of Curbridge in the parish aforementioned, by me Francis Martin. In 1812, at a special meeting held at Orange street Chapel, a William Couzens is mentioned as being one of the fifteen main subscribers. And in 1771 some members of the congregatrional church came from HAVANT, including a Mr Henry Crowsley, who then had his name struck through and a note added ; left his wife and family destitute!!
