    3. Great great grandfather, an Able Seaman, spent 28 days N.D.A. in Kingston Gaol in 1865. 1. Are Kingston Gaol records for 1865 available and if so, where? 2. Any idea what N.D.A. stands for? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks. Mike. --------------------------------- Yahoo! 3. Mike, N.D.A. stands for Naval Discipline Act. He spent his 28 days (less any remission time), for infringing some aspect of naval discipline at that time. Not sure when Royal Naval Detention Quarters Portsmouth came into being a separate entity, so the nearest local prison was probably used. For records you could try Portsmouth Museum/Record Office, they might be able to point you in the right direction if anything exists.
