Hi Gill - Many thanks for your kind offer. My great uncle's name was actually Francis Henry Halsey (Home) Dickson but in the army and his cricket career - he went by the name Harry Home. He would not be found on the 1881 census - as he was in South Africa fighting in the first Boer War. From there I believe he went to Preston with the army. Not clear where he was 1882-87 , thus my interest in whether he had been playing cricket in Flint County (Flintshire?) as mentioned in the reference I found about him being the only professional player hired to play for the amateur Ormskirk team.He was a bowler- played 12 seasons with Ormskirk 1887-1898.-"formerly of Flint County"... "was both successful and popular''...''paid 2 pounds per week plus a Benefit Match". I could not think of any other reason for him having been in Flint County - unless to play cricket , or if there was an army base there. He was with the the mounted infantry of the 1st Battalion Prince of Wales Leinster Regt. (109th Reg't - later 100th) from Birr , Ireland - later Preston. Would they ever have been stationed in Flint County? Have completely lost track of him after 1901 census where he was still in Ormskirk.. Can't even find a death notice for him. If you think you can help with any "Flint County/Flintshire connection" - I would appreciate it very much. regards Mary Margaret
