Hi, Researchers: I had three of my naval grandparents searched & paid a researcher. By the time one fiddles, it's best to have someone look at Kew. I know it's pricey but cheaper than airfare, B&B etc. Good Luck, Edna - sunny Ottawa --- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sarah Middleton" <[email protected]> I have found the following ancestor: John MIDLANE, born abt 1793, Brading, Isle of Wight. By 1815, he was in Portsea. In 1823 he was described as a Mariner. On the 1851 census, he is a Greenwich Pensioner, and in 1861, shortly before he died, he was a Carpenter and Joiner (Naval Pension). I believe that there should be a record of his naval service and being a Greenwich pensioner, and that these are held by The National Archives. I have tried searching their website, but I find it quite complicated and haven't come up with any results that could be him. Am I looking in the right place? Can anyone help me find out about his service or pension? Is anyone else researching the name MIDLANE? Thanks, Sarah ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
