Hi Is it possible that your John Payne didn't die in Christchurch, there is a John Payne aged 73 yrs of the G.R.O. (Ancestry) registered in Elham June Qtr. If he died there he would have to be registered there. Just a thought, Good Luck Val -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Francis Payne Sent: 18 February 2008 08:17 To: [email protected] Subject: [HAM] Missing from GRO Index - original registration ? My g-g-grandfather John Payne (d 17/6/1908 at Highcliffe) is not in the GRO death index. He would have been reg at Christchurch. There is a birth of John Payne in the same qtr and a death of Jane Payne (correct age of 73) in the same qtr, both reg at Christchurch. Assuming these are not him, and he has been left out of the index, how would I go about obtaining the details from the original registration office ? Many thanks. Elham, Kent, I presume. Don't think he strayed much from Highcliffe in later years - although Indian Army and Abyssinian War Medal in days gone by. Thanks for taking the trouble to read and reply.
