Amport is a parish within the hundred of Andover - originally known as simply Anne in the 11th century but Anneport by the 15th.C. At the start of the 20th century there were large stretches of woodland in the southern part of the parish - one of these being Sarson Wood. Sarson itself was a tithing in the parish of Amport and had also been known as Ann Savage and Soresdene. The VCH mentions that there were 2 water mills at Sarson.
