UD is Urban District (i.e. town) RD is Rural District (i.e. country) USD is Urban Sanitary District These are all local government districts. The first two are still in fairly common usage, preceded by the name of the district, e.g. [Place] Urban District Council, but the USD has generally been discontinued.
