We have a relative married 1740 Hampshire born abt 1718. Does anyone know if it was the rule that when they married they should have been baptised before the marriage was allowed in the Church of England. This guy had an alias which he dropped a few years after marriage but we cannot find any baptism for him to say where he came from or parents names. I accept he possibly was illegitimate but they were normally baptised. Thanks Hilda
