Dear fellow Listers I've just picked up my late father's CARD research. As with any family history project it has the usual oddities. My father traced the CARD's to Romsey Hamps, with his ancestor William CARD b. 1790 Romsey. WHilst I have found a number of CARD's in Romsey, I have yet to find the elusive William. I wondered if anyone has knowledge of the CARD's of Romsey and whether they have ever noted a christening around 1790 of a William. I find one in 1760, which I suspect is his father, but cannot be sure. Also it seems after about 1800 they disappear from Romsey... Whilst I'm at it I may as well ask if anyone has any idea why he'd say he was born in Romsey, yet the first record I have of him is in Lincoln in 1819 at his son William John PITSTOW CARD's 1st Christening (not content with doing it once he and his wife Maria COTTINGHAM re-christen WJP Card again 5 years later in Northampton! William and Maria marry 13 years after WJP's christening in London by Vicar General Licence - I suspect Catholicism has something to do with this...
