Hi All, I was at the Hants RO yesterday and came across an entry for one of my ancestors Harriet WYETH b.1828 in Dummer and baptised in Buriton. She had a child out of wedlock, also named Harriet, who was baptised in Buriton on 7th June 1846. No father was noted in the register and in the column marked 'Trade or Profession' were the letters 'B.B.'. The next entry on the same day and was also for a baptism out of wedlock (moral support???) with the same letters entered in the register. Such children were openly labelled bastards in those days and my guess would be 'bastard birth' but I wondered if anyone out there could shed light on this one. The 'B.B.' did not seem to appear on other baptisms. Regards Andy
At a guess - base born. Another term for illegitimate or bastard. I had "spurious child of xxx and yyy" on one of mine - but at least both parents were named!
