    3. Well that`s a good start Patsy, the age is a bit of a concern though 1876, as my gha wasn`t born until 1892, however she was very heavily pregnant or worse, as the first child was born in the same quarter as the marriage. interestingly there was a George Alfred Keeping born 1882 in Eastry (Deal Kent). but they are the only 2 between 1875 and 1900. 3. Dear fellow Listers I've just picked up my late father's CARD research. As with any family history project it has the usual oddities. My father traced the CARD's to Romsey Hamps, with his ancestor William CARD b. 1790 Romsey. WHilst I have found a number of CARD's in Romsey, I have yet to find the elusive William. I wondered if anyone has knowledge of the CARD's of Romsey and whether they have ever noted a christening around 1790 of a William. I find one in 1760, which I suspect is his father, but cannot be sure. Also it seems after about 1800 they disappear from Romsey... Whilst I'm at it I may as well ask if anyone has any idea why he'd say he was born in Romsey, yet the first record I have of him is in Lincoln in 1819 at his son William John PITSTOW CARD's 1st Christening (not content with doing it once he and his wife Maria COTTINGHAM re-christen WJP Card again 5 years later in Northampton! William and Maria marry 13 years after WJP's christening in London by Vicar General Licence - I suspect Catholicism has something to do with this... 3. Hello Bruce - I guess you have seen the Noah DYETT in London in 1841? His wife is not Harriet but I notice that a daughter called Harriet was baptised to this couple in 1824. Both Noah and wife Mary Ann are 'not born in county' in 1841 and Noah is a carpenter. There are a number of other baptisms but only two children with them in this census. I don't see them in 1851 unfortunately but there is a death registration for a Noah DYET in London, 1850. The son, George Noah Richard DYET appears to have married in East London in 1854, probably to Mary Ann PORTER and is living in Cripplegate in 1861, a house carpenter. The daughter Elizabeth Martha DYET married in Hackney in 1859 possibly to George Edward MUNT. Elizabeth M MUNT died 1866 reg Lambeth. In 1871 George, a bricklayer, is living in Hackney with son George aged 13. Could be food for thought? 3. Thanks Joan. As far as I have been able to gather the 60th was indeed an 'American' regiment and it recruited in Holland & Belgium. I suspect 'my' Bollaert was with the 5th battalion - but I don't know where the records are, if they still exist. 3. H John, I have come across the 60th Regiment of Foot in Quebec as being a regiment formed of American Loyalists who came to Canada. There is a 67 ? Regiment which was called the South Hampshire Regiment. From a Wikepedia Article on British Regiments of Foot: 60th Regiment of Foot (Royal American Regiment of Foot/The King's Royal Rifle Corps Regiment of Foot) I hope this is some help, Joan >

    3. Jane Collings married Andrew Jacob Bollaert in Lymington on 11 Feb 1802. He was described as 'late of 60th regiment, a Dutch Emmigrant'. I believe that Jane was probably the daughter of Samuel & Ann Collings and was baptised in 1787. Has anyone come across the 60th Regiment and knows where the records might be? I've tried the Royal Greenjackets in Winchester, and also checked the catalogue at TNA, Kew. Also does anyone know anything about the Collings family in Lymington? 3. Unsurprisingly, I did not get any responses to my enquiry about Joseph Strang in my posting of 19 Nov. I am now wondering whether he was actually a French boy adopted by a British couple. Do there exist any records (official or otherwise) of adoptions in southern English counties around 1830-1840? Bob K.
