    3. Hello Michael - might this be your man's death: 1944 Herbert T HUGHES Aged 92. Registered Aldershot, Hampshire. Volume 2c Page 331. If this is your man the death certificate may say where he is buried. Hope this helps a little. 1. [HAM] Re Coveney
    2. Eugene & Deirdre Blunt
    3. Would anyone be able to help me to locate the parents' names of Daniel Coveney. According to freebmd's his birth was registered at Portsea, Hampshire in the June quarter 1880. The 1881 census shows him as 1 year old, living at 11 Sydenham Tce, Portsea, Hampshire with his mother, Lizzie Coveney, shown as Wife (Head), age 27, born Ireland, Wife of Warrant Officer. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything on the father. I believe they were Roman Catholic, and have checked right through the OPC baptisms, but there is nothing there for the surname of Coveney. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Deirdre Blunt

    3. Dear All, This is my first posting to this list so may I wish everyone best wishes for the festive season. I gather you had a 'white Christmas' - here we are having bush fires in the west of the country and floods in the east! I am interested in Rev Herbert Thomas Hughes who died in 1944. The last posting that I know of is Rector of Hartley Westpall (I hope the spelling is correct!) in Hampshire. Could SKS be able to tell me if he had any later postings? Where did he die? Where is he buried? Is there an inscription on his grave and if so, can I obtain a copy of it? The greatest New Year present would, of course, be a photo of the grave/headstone etc! Once again, best wishes to all and many thanks for any help that you can offer. Regards, Michael

    3. Hi Graeme, a bit remote, though still of Hampshire.   A certain 'Carde', huntsman to the Abbott of Beaulieu, was fined for killing with hounds a sorel (3rd-year buck) and hind calf in September 1492.   The name Card was Old French (via Norman) and meant 'teazle-head'.   Regards, David

    3. This is a longshot but wonder if this could be a poor transcription of Cranmer House - Cranmer was the Vicar in the 19th C who built the rectory at Nursling. Linda & Tony On Behalf Of gillian king Sent: 21 December 2009 20:21 To: HAMPSHIRE@rootsweb.com Subject: [HAM] Charmer House, Nursling I am trying to find any details of Charmer or Charmar House, Nursling. The time frame appears to be 1799 onwards. I have a William MABEY (Mayby, Mabbe, Meaby, etc) born 25th January 1799 who also married in Nursling being referred to as 'of Charme(a)r House'. I would be grateful for any information about Charmer House, however vague. Gill
