    2. guy palmer
    3. Hello, everybody, and thank you for welcoming me to the list. This is my first posting. Unexpectedly, I have discovered that some relatives of mine named SKINNER lived in Hampshire. William and Mary Skinner seem to have started a family in Milborne St Andrew in Dorset but moved to FORDINGBRIDGE in Hampshire around 1790, possibly as farmers or tanners, and stayed until at least 1835. So I have two questions, please: 1/. Is anybody researching the name SKINNER who would be willing to help? 2/. Can anybody give me information about Redbrook Farm near Fordingbridge, which is where I think they resided? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. 3. Hi Jeff - there is an entry in the 1851 census which may be of interest: Sallisbury William HORDER 46 Police Constable Elizabeth 46. B Chitterne Mary Ann 21 Servant William 19 Labourer George 12 Errand boy Henry 10 Scholar All listed as born Salisbury except Elizabeth In 1881 Mary A COLLINS wife of George, an innkeeper in Hordle, gives her birthplace as Salisbury. Worth looking into? As George gives his birthplace as Bransgore (1881) the following may be useful: 1851 Sopley : Joseph COLLINS 46 Servant. B Maiden Newton, Dorset Caroline 47. George 16 Therese 11 Caroline and children listed as born Bransgore. 1861 George and Mary A in Hordle farming next door to Joseph and Caroline, also farming. 1871 George and Mary A are in Hordle, faming. Happy to send details if you do not already have them. 2. Hi list, I have just found my ancestors wedding certificate from 1854. It is between George COLLINS and May Ann HORDER. They married in Romsey April 20th. I know that George ran a pub called the Bells in Hordle, which is now a private residence. I know a bit about the COLLINS offspring ( but not much), but I was wondering if anyone has any information on Mary Anns' father William HORDER, it states on the wedding certificate "Policeman". Also any information on Geroges' father Joseph, who was a "servant". One of the witnesses was a Joseph HORDER. Heres hoping. Kind regards Jeff in Poole.

    1. [HAM] MILLER PORTSMOUTH
    2. Good morning Hampshire listers, I am new to this list but use the Cheshire list regularly. Familysearch/IGI shows the 1750 marriage of JAMES MILLER and ANN TUCKER in PORTSMOUTH, Does anyone have access to Portsmouth records which may give more information or does anyone know a source where I might find out a little more about MILLER, age, origin etc?. I hope to find that he originated in Manchester b. 1723, and had just returned from India after fighting the French. He was a member of the ill-fated Manchester Regiment, and had been taken prisoner at Carlisle after the Jacobite rebellion in 1745; he was sentenced to death, but pardoned upon enlistment to go to India. Many thanks, Bob Mather, Barnton, Cheshire

    3. Hello Michael   Not answering your question - but just in case you don't know of the Hampshire Record Centre on-line catalogue, at:   http://calm.hants.gov.uk/DServe/   I can see reference there to the Rev H T Hughes's induction mandate at Emery Down and Hartley Wespall (the more recent) and also to a letter written by him:   FindingNo 21M65/I/2/A/96   Title Emery Down: documents concerning the benefice income and in particular the money left in trust to the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty under the terms of Admiral Boultbee's will   Date 1889-1894   Description Comprises: copy letters from the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty, 16-19 Nov 1889; copy extract of the will, nd; a letter from the Revd Herbert T Hughes, 14 Jan 1894   Also finding 143M83/PZ1 apparently includes a photograph of him whilst vicar at Emery Down 1880 - 1890.   Maybe there's more.   Hope that helps   Rod - (researching GARNETT and FRYER amongst others in Hampshire)
