    1. [HAM] Identification of Home Guard - New forest
    2. Brian Gould
    3. I have a picture of some members of the Home Guard in the New Forest and I am trying to identify them. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. The person I am particulrly interested in is number 27 as I think it is one of the Maitlands who lived in Bartley Manor, Bartley. The photo is on my website http://www.bgould.dsl.pipex.com/homeguard.jpg Regards Brian Gould No virus found in this outgoing message. 1. [HAM] Edward DAY & Elizabeth DEAN - c 1825 Selborne
    2. Peter Booth (2)
    3. List, Would anyone have access to Selborne PR's on Fiche or CD and could do a lookup for the above? Their son Edward Dalby Day migrated to Australia around 1855. At his 1859 NSW marriage to Mary Jane Bright he give age as 32, birthplace Selborne and parents Edward Day & Elizabeth Dean. Father's occupation is a gamekeeper. I'm looking for possible marriage or any siblings of Edward and clues to origins of parents. I've looked through every census record on both Ancestry and Find My Past but cannot find a single DAY surname born in Selborne except a widow Elizabeth in 1891 and 1901. But her birth c1820 means it's a different Elizabeth, too young to be Edward's mother. I would certainly appreciate it, if anybody has links to this family. PS!! There are some dubious submissions at Ancestry Family Trees. It looks like somebody has taken another Edward Day and Elizabeth couple in Surrey and intermingled every child they can find irrespective of dates and locations. The data doesn't even match census records. Peter in Sydney

    3. When you say you have looked through every census and only found them on the 1891 & 1901 census - have you looked outside of the England censuses? Ie Wales , Scotland (Scotlands People) or overseas where they could have gone accesed via Ancestry and Find My Past Mis spelling of the surname and/or incorrect place stated for birth on census/es. Just a few ideas to re check on! Also you have access to passenger lists for ancestry and Find my past perhaps check everywhere there. 1. [HAM] PAGE family of Gosport
    2. Ian Buckley
    3. I'm new to the list - my chief wish at the moment is for information about the Page family of Gosport. One of my Page ancestors who migrated to South Australia in 1850 used a crest on his stationery. The crest is a blue 'demi seahorse' (= top half of a stylised seahorse), over a Gothic capital P. The standard work on crests (Fairbairn) identifies the device as belonging to the Gosport Pages. I have another image of the crest, on a piece of Royal Worcester china - again the crest is ascribed to the Gosport Pages ... about whom I can find no information. My ancestor was James Page (b. London 1825); his father was Henry Page (origins obscure). I would be grateful for any help and advice Best wishes from Cornwall Ian _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft’s powerful SPAM protection. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/196390706/direct/01/

Having researched my half of the whole I can see why they dont bother. I have uploaded a little website to show any passing rellie that it could have been a lot worse! Josi http://josi.geoghegan.org

    3. Hi Peter I know you're looking for DAY, but there were DEAN(E) people in Hawkley, nearby, if you're interested. Hannah Deane bapt. 9 Oct 1771 who married Richard Halcombe in Angmering in 1792. Hannah's possible father was Isaac Dean of Hawkley. 3. Hi Peter, I was going to ask had you checked out the knightroots website for entries, but I can't get on the site this morning for some reason, most unusual! Have you tried the IGI as well at www.familysearch.org ? I do have the Hampshire baptism CD produced by the Hampshire FHS but lookups are not permitted sorry. All the best, Jon

    1. [HAM] Hampshire FreeCen Project
    2. Bev
    3. Hi all Just in case anyone missed my original message sent just before Christmas here is a reminder. How would you like to have FREE access to all the 19th century GB census? No more tokens, subscriptions etc. Freecen, an international project, is aiming to do just that, a good start has already been made, there are over 15 million entries on line and increasing all the time. Hampshire itself has 120,963 (27.3%) of 1861 records available and 276,007 (45.3%) 1891 records available already. Obviously though it needs volunteers with willing fingers to help us finish the project. Can you help please. Requirements are patience, as much time as you can give and feel comfortable with, a sense of humour and willingness to learn a new and comparatively easy skill. In return you will receive a pre formatted spreadsheet, jpegs of the census pages which need copying, (although 1891 is mostly only available in microfiche format) an on line help list and contact with the coordinator for the area and a sense of achievement. Please help us with this fantastic project. If you would like to volunteer then please contact me off list on bandys@worldonline.co.uk If possible please let me know if you have access to a microfiche reader and which county/areas you are most interested in. Looking forward to hearing from you Cheers Bev Howlett Freecen Volunteer Recruitment Co-Ordinator --

    3. Hello from New Zealand. In the Alverstoke Reg Dist in FreeBMD there are the following GOODYEAR details:- Marriage: Nicholas Samuel to either Mary BELL or Mary Ann FOY; Sep Q 1862. Birth: Robert Nicholas Josiah; Jun Q 1865. Death; Robert N J; Mar Q 1866. Death; Mary; Sep Q 1866. I presume all these are the same family and wondered if anyone can tell me anything about them. Nicholas Samuel then died in the Mar Q 1871 in East Stonehouse, where the GOODYEAR family that I am researching, came from. Thanks Mike

    3. Could anyone tell me if there are any Royal Navy records I could access? I am trying to find information on an Edward Coveney, born about 1849/50 Ireland, who was in the Royal Navy stationed at Portsmouth, Hampshire in the 1871 and 1881 census. I believe he also had a son named Edward, probably born just around 1883, who became a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy. Any help would be very much appreciated. Deirdre Blunt, From Australia

    3. Further to this, I think this Christabella (b 1804) is actually the granddaughter of Robert and Elizabeth PICKAX - her parents were Francis BLACHFORD and Betty (Elizabeth) HEAD. See http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~riverhouse/wc06/wc06_011.htm. Hope this helps. I would hazard a guess that Your Christabella is the niece of mine, but this would need to be checked.
