    3. I believe the Harleian Society volumes list all surviving Hampshire Marriage Allegations, apart from 275 extra ones which were found later. These extra Allegations were listed by Arthur J Willis, and published in a booklet in 1962 by the Society of Genealogists. I have a copy of the booklet. The booklet is included in the microfiche version of the Hampshire Marriage Allegations, sold by Hampshire Record Office, but it is probably not included in CD versions. 3. For a description of Hampshire wills, see www.hants.gov.uk/record-office/wills/index.html Also see http://website.lineone.net/~hantshistory/source-1.html Most Hampshire wills before 1858 would have been proved in one of the Hampshire courts, and will be in the microfiche index of Hampshire wills. Some would have been proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC). Images of PCC wills can be downloaded. See the second link above. 2. Alan McGowan
    3. Andy, You are interested in baptisms and burials for Boscombe in 1877-79, but the parish registers of Boscombe St John the Evangelist do not start until 1891 (baptisms), 1895 (marriages), and 1951 (burials). There is a list of Bournemouth churches with parish register start dates on my website at http://website.lineone.net/~hantshistory/parish-bm.html The earliest Bournemouth parish was St Peter, which was created in 1845 from part of Christchurch and part of Holdenhurst. Bournemouth was in Hampshire until 1974. Registers of Bournemouth parishes are at Hampshire Record Office, but some Nonconformist church records are at Dorset Record Office. 1. Re: [Ham] Boscombe, Where would I find the parish records?
    2. Hi Andy, St. Johns at Boscombe was not built till 1891/1893. Records from there are at the Hants County R.O. Christchurch Registration District (created July 1st 1837) has no mention of Boscombe so presume there was no earlier church there. On HRO web site it says "Records of the Boroughs of Bournemouth and Christchurch which were formerly part of Hampshire are held by the Dorset Record Office" Try the Dorset R.O. with an email, I will send the link direct to you. Hope this helps, Regards Jean in Hampshire.

    3. Margaret, Records of Portsea Union Workhouse are held at Portsmouth City Records Office (PCRO). See the two Portsea Workhouse links at http://website.lineone.net/~hantshistory/poorlaw.html but note that one of these states incorrectly that the records are at Hampshire Record Office. The page on Peter Higginbotham's Site includes a summary of records held at PCRO, and I know records of births1898-1922 are also held. For full details of records, contact PCRO. 3. Hello again - further to my previous message IGI has a baptism in Portsea for Frederick WALKER son of James and Caroline WALKER. 5th Oct 1843 FreeBMD has a marriage for James WALKER to Caroline HOLLINGSWORTH Reg Isle of Wight Jun Q 1839. Ref 8 348. There are two other baptisms for this couple - James Herbert in 1841 and Frank in 1842 Hope this adds a little to the picture. Cheers, Patsy - New Zealand. 2. Patricia O'Shea
    3. Hi Margaret - Frederick is already married in the 1871 census: Portsea Albany Road, St Donats Frederick WALKER 26 Solicitor. B Portsea, Hants Jane Maria 24 B Cowbridge, Glamorganshire Lucy HARDING 17 B Southsea, Hants. In 1861 there is an entry which may be useful: Portsmouth Samuel S TOREY 39 Manager of Hants Telegraph and ?? Paper. B Spitalfieds, Middlesex Caroline 44. B Portsmouth Frank WALKER 19 Son in law. Articled to Architect. B Portsea Frederic WALKER 17. Articled to Lawyer. B Portsea Fanny PHILLIPS 20 House servant. B Wooton, Hants In 1871 the entry is: Samuel J? TOREY 46 Manager of Newspaper. B Spitalfieds, MSX Caroline 51. B Portsmouth Elizabeth 23 Dau/Unm B shoreditch, MSX Florence A STOCKWOOD 12 Visitor. B Cowbridge, Glam. Elizabeth STOCKLEY 17 Domestic servant. B Corfe Castle, Dorset On looking around FreeBMD I think it is probably Samuel Loseby/Losely TOREY. He married Eunice Ann PRICE in 1849 Bethnal Green and Eunice died 1854 Reg Market Drayton. There is a marriage for a Caroline WALKER in 1859 Farnham but unfortunately no spouse comes up. Hope this helps a little.
