    3. Dear Linda & Tony Thank you for the marriage information, it was much appreciated. We have now searched for the witnesses of Harriett's marriage (Maria and Henry Richard Messem) & found : In the IGI there are the following christenings all with : Father : EBDEN MESSEM, Mother : ANN Henry Richard MESSEM Male Christening: 6-10-1811, Saint Faith, Havant, Hampshire Maria MESSEM Female Christening : 8-12-1816, Saint Thomas, Bedhampton, Hampshire Charles Dismore MESSEM Male Christening : 16-7-1820, Saint Thomas, Bedhampton, Hampshire ................................................................ There is also the following marriage : Edward MESSEM & Ann DISMORE on 9-12-1804 at Saint Marys, Portsea, Hampshire .................................................................. I think we can assume EBDEN MESSEM & EDWARD MESSEM are the same person, with their son, Charles having a second first name DISMORE , the name Edben being mistranscribed from the parish register. Now looking at Edward & Ann MESSEM as parents there is : Harriett MESSEM Female Christening : 15-4-1810, Saint Marys, Portsea, Hampshire Father : Edward MESSEM Mother : Ann All this would point to confirm that at the wedding of Harriett Messum the witnesses were her sister, Maria, and her brother, Henry Richard, and that her parents were Edward MESSUM / EM & Ann MESSUM (nee Dismore) Would it be possible for you to look for the marriage of Edward MESSEM & Ann DISMORE on 9-12-1804 at Saint Marys, Portsea, and mabe any witnesses might be other Messums from which we can go further back ??? Thanks again for all your help Regards Tom > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <Knightroots@aol.com> > To: <HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, September 09, 2005 11:07 PM > Subject: [Ham] Marriage Look-up Portsea MESSUM/ SILVESTER > > Hello Tom > apologies for te delay in details but her it is. > > St Mary's Portsea CHU3/1D/36 > page 23 no 68 Daniel SILVESTER of this parish Bachelor and Harriet > MESSUM > of this parish Spinster married by banns 27th February 1837 in the > presence > of X the mark of Maria MESSUM and Henry Richard MESSUM > > Fathers weren't shown prior to September 1837(. > Take care,Linda and Tony

    2. Nik Leach
    3. Dear Liz, Apologies if you've already tried this, but the Durley History Society has an excellent site for all things Durley. There are complete parish register transcriptions from the 1560s to 1899/1900 and some beautifully transcribed census returns for the years 1841-1871. The Newsletters page is also worth a good look if you are interested in the general history of Durley. The records page can be accessed from the link below:- http://www.hants.gov.uk/durley/organisations/histsoc/parishrecords.htm Hope this helps. Cheers, Marie. ----- Original Message ----- > Good evening Hampshire People,

    1. BRIDGES & REEVES in Durley, mid 1800s
    2. Liz Lane
    3. Good evening Hampshire People, Thanks to a wrong entry on the Familysearch site, it's taken me years to find the wedding of Joseph BRIDGES, bachelor, 28, Labourer, of Durley and Martha REEVES, spinster, 19, Servant, of Durley on 2nd August 1846 in the Parish Church in Durley. Joseph's father was James Bridges, Labourer, and Martha's was John Reeves, ditto. Witnesses making their mark were Peter and Elizabeth Bridges. Joseph and Martha's seventh and youngest child (as far as I know) was Alice Maria 13th September 1868 in Durley. She married Henry J. LANE in 1891 in the Wesleyan Chapel in Fareham. Is there anyone who can add to this? I have no mothers for Joseph/Martha, and no siblings. Peter, if you are reading this, it adds a bit to what we had! Hopefully, Liz Elizabeth Lane Worthing West Sussex liz_lane@ntlworld.com

    3. Dear Members I am looking for any information of my family from Houghton, Hampshire. I have gone back as far as : Paul Lavington born about 1744 He married Martha Bakingham in 15th December 1793 in Houghton, Hampshire. Theyhad 5 children. Joseph, mary, James.John, Sarah Paul died on the 23 th june 1829 also in Houghton Hampshire where it states that he was 85 years old when he died. I am trying to find Paul's birth and his parents. I found his mother ( mary lavington ) who died in Houghton, Hampshire in 1808, but not a note about who his father was. From paul, 3 generations stayed in Houghton, Hampshire. I do not know where else to look as on your mailing list you do not have any information from Houghton, Hampshire. I found all of this information from the Bishops Transcripts and parish Records. So if any body out there can help me I would be very grateful, maybe I have gone back as far as I can with this. Regards Jean Parker

    1. Gracious "thank you" ~~
    2. Edna & Ken
    3. Hi, A gracious "thank you" to Linda and Tony and many others on the lists who have helped me over the past few years with my family tree. Often I'll place a query and receive no reply and that means that no one knows the answer. If someone does have the information, it will be forthcoming in a short while. These lists are voluntary and people are not paid monetarily, our only payment is receiving a pleasant note of appreciation. I always ask myself, how can I contribute to the list today. This helps make the list what it is -- a congenial, helpful group of people with the same love of family history. Three Cheers for the Lists!!! Edna n' Ken ~ Ottawa
