Is anyone researching ALLEN, in Steventon? From the 1881 census, Charles Allen, born Overton, age 50. In 1901 census Charles Allen ( head) and Amelia Allen ( grand daughter ). I have the marriage certificate of Amelia Jane Allen to Alfred North, at Steventon, in 1901, her father's name was not given, a witness was Charles Allen. Thanks Alf Damp Ryde IOW
Hello everyone I'm returning to the Hampshire list to try to find a few missing twigs from my tree. My great grand aunt Ellen GATCUM married Edwin Thomas FOREMAN on 28 January 1903. Ellen was living in 'Gunhill Hut' in Aldershot. Edwin, 23, was the son of Samuel FOREMAN carter. He was a driver in the Royal Artillery and living in the Artillery Barracks in Aldershot. I've found three possible children for them but before sending for birth certificates, I'm wondering if there are any FOREMAN researchers on the list who might have info to share? Judy, There are prints of drawings of buildings, etc made in Shalden, Hampshire around 1820 available from Winchester Public Records Office. They include the homes of the Knights and the Skates family (the latter being my own family home which is still there). Hi Alan, The idea of Bps being mistaken as Pops really does look possible doesn't it. I'm not sure where the address details of the deceased would be obtained from. I seem to have a recollection that it very much depended on information provided by the relatives of the deceased and this in some instances can explain why so little information is available. In this instance I appear to have been a lot luckier than many with the amount of information I have been provided with via the CWGC. Thanks again, Alan Siddorn, Irby, Wirral. ---------- From: "Alan McGowan" <mcgoa@lineone.net> To: <HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 12, 2005 9:01 PM Subject: Re: [Ham] Pops Waltham If the writing is lower case, it could be a misreading of Bps Waltham.

Hi everyone, I wonder if someone can help me with a census entry from 1861 at Gosport please? The details I have are: King Street, Alverstoke, Gosport. Mary A Goodfellow, Head, Married, b1829 (32) Fishbourne, Hants., Beerhouse Keeper; William Gates, Brother, Unmarried, b1839 (22) Fishbourne, Hants., Carpenter; Emma Gates, Niece, Unmarried, b1843 (18) Fishbourne, Hants., Servant; James Purkis, Lodger, Unmarried, b1825 (36) not known, Labourer; William Hayman, Lodger, Married, b1801 (60) Sussex, Plasterer; Caroline Alderey, Head, Unmarried, b1832 (29) Petersfield, Laundress. Should Caroline be in a household on her own, maybe next door, or is she correctly placed in the household of Mary, but as her own boss so to speak? I know that Hill Pound, Swanmore is indeed the correct family address for his wife Bertha GARDNER (nee EARWAKER) but would Pops Waltham be an erroneous entry for Bishops Waltham or is Pops Waltham another location entirely? Perhaps some local variation that a northerner like myself would be unaware of. Alan Siddorn, Irby, Wirral.
