    2. We also had a problem Tom as we had to change our laptp which meant we had windows XP. Is this the problem possibly? Alternatively, have you tried www.familysearch.org free go there and click on advanced and you have the option of the 1881 census. Apparently you can do a search without a surname on there and just by putting in an occupation if you wish to (in case anyone didn'tknow a ueful tip possibly). Hope this helps a little Tom. Let us know if we or anyone can check anything out for you, kind regards Linda amd Tony Hello Listers I hope Linda doesn't mind me asking but I have a problem with my 1881 British Census set of discs. 3. Hi, Yes I have a Reuben Crook (1786-1822) b. Ttotton, Sussex, died Hambledon and buried Petersfield. He and wife Sarah Haben had Charlotte b. 1818 Hambledon. Looks like Charlotte married Thomas Munday 1845. Was wondering who this Reuben is, and I see no brothers of Charlotte Crook. Think that the Reuben might be too far a-field in Gloucs. Thanks Ron. Subject: Fw: CNN announces worst virus ever WORST VIRUS EVER --- CNN ANNOUNCED PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!! A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its functioning are stored. This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title: "A Card for You". As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+ del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York , according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You. " As soon as you get the mail, delete it !! Even if you know the sender !!! Please pass this mail to all of your friends. Forward this to everyone in your address book. I'm sure most people, like myself, would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at all. _____________________________________________________________________ FREE Emoticons for your email! 3. Sorry to say this Ray, but it looks like you've been misinformed. This is actually a hoax, and quite an old one at that. I found no mention of it anywhere on the CNN website www.cnn.com The McAfee website does not carry any urgent warning about any virus as described.....though details about it are on the website at http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_98893.htm Whenever I hear of, see or receive virus alerts or similar, I ALWAYS check the alleged source (in this instance CNN & McAfee) before acting upon or forwarding them - & I also find the website details of the source for myself via google etc rather than use a web address given in the supposed alert. To me, these are basic computer security procedures. Also........most mailing lists have a policy of not allowing virus etc alerts to be posted to the list - they tend to absolutely clog up the systems - possibly why many service providers prohibit virus alerts on lists on their servers!............I'm not an admin here so I don't know what the policy here is, but I am List Manager or Moderator on a number of (non genealogy) lists, none of which allow virus alert postings. One final point, though not about Viruses...........by simply forwarding an email as received, you may not realise it but you have revealed a large number (I counted 96 in a very quick glance) of email addresses to anybody who may wish to misuse them, such as spammers. My advice is to always copy & paste the relevant bits rather than to forward the entire email. Martyn
