Forwarded message to list - new subscriber. Welcome Liz to the list. Linda and Tony (List Admin) -----Original Message----- From: Harvie and Liz Barker Sent: 08 October 2005 02:58 To: _HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com) Subject: ships mystery for Charles Terdrey, Portsmouth Dear listers: I have 3 documents for Charles Terdrey: 1907, his marriage at Portsmouth, which states his residence as "HMS Flirt"; 1908, birth of son at Portsmouth, which states his occupation as "Steward, HMS Quail" and then his navy seaman service records which lists the ships served on from 1906 to 1928. My question is: why dont these ships named on cert: Flirt and Quail appear in his seamans's service?...other ships such as Hecla, Blenheim, Dido, Blake, etc appear. I am almost totally sure i have the right seamans's records: birth of Charles Terdrey, Redruth, Cornwall and port of Portsmouth. I tried Freebmd for any other Charles Terdrey born Redruth at same time and there werent any...it's a rather RARE spelling of the old Cornish name: Terdray, or Tredrea. very strange indeed. hope someone can shed light on this dilemna..thanks Liz of BC Canada
I have a subscription to Ancestry.co.uk and have just looked at the 1851 sample for Thomas Skinner in Surrey and there was only one there in Rotherhithe which was not the one I was looking for. However, I have found the one I am looking for using the link (in the e mails). So I would assume it is not the sample. I'm looking for Sarah DYETT (b. 1835) and daughter Annie Eliza (b. 1855). Both had children but no husbands (Annie had Walter John in 1872). I can't find deaths for either of these ladies and I wonder if they married after having their kids. There is a possible marriage for Annie in 1879 to Henry CANE or Charles BAYLESS (Q2 S. Stoneham 2c, 133), but nothing reasonable for Sarah (apart from a marriage in London in 1886 (Q2 Kensington 1a, 213) but the only other person on the page is a woman! Can anyone shed some light on these two? Alan in sweltering Brisbane
