    1. RE: [Ham] 2 CD Roms produced by NZSG in NZ

    3. And a reminder (I send this one out regularly so sorry if you're bored with it) But even if your own ancestors didn't emigrate but had siblings who DID, then if they died after 1876 the death certificate will give their place of birth and parents names, VERY useful (although not always accurate). After 1893 NZ electoral rolls also contain womens' names as they became eligible to vote. Having searched the NZ electoral rolls I would say that if this is something you are interested in then the CD sounds good value as the fiche are arranged first by geographical order, then by electoral division then by surname making them very difficult to search for your own family unless you know where they were living. Hopefully the CD overcomes this problem. The earlier marriages are not too bad to search on the fiche once you get used to the slightly odd layout and the fact that some are not quite in correct alphabetical order! For later marriages (more of them!) I imagine the CD would be very helpful. Don't forget also that some people went out to NZ (and Aus) and came back again so they could have married out there and then show up back in England (I've helped out one lady with this problem) so if you're stuck without a marriage or with a child born in NZ to an English based family it's worth checking out. PS I have no commercial interest in these CDs but they do sound like a good helping hand and worthy of a look Regards Jane -----Original Message----- From: KATHY HILL [mailto:kathysrequests@post.com] Sent: Saturday, 29 October 2005 11:35 p.m. To: HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Ham] 2 CD Roms produced by NZSG in NZ Hi everyone, Just spotted this e-mail from the NZSG. 1. 1851 census
    2. Gill Jones
    3. Thanks to all the people who responded to my query about the 1851 census. I'll investigate the various sources. In the meantime I would be grateful if Kathleen in Chicago could check the whereabouts of Ellen Bellinger. I thought I had found her baptism in 1837 in South Hayling but the 1861 census gives her age about 3/4 years younger (therefore about 1840/41) and lists Portsea as her birthplace. I was wondering whether there were two Ellen Bellingers in the area at the time. I thought the 1851 census might be able to clear this up as she would still presumeably have been living with her parents at the time. Thanks Gill

    3. Hi Joan - this looks like the family in 1861, indexed as KULPER. Ages have been heavily scored through so are almost unreadable. Romsey, Winchester Road Charles BULPIT 48? Ag lab. Elizabeth 47? B Landford, Wilts Charles 17? George 14 James 13 William 9 Charlotte 7 Harry 4 All born Romsey except Elizabeth. In 1851 Elizabeth's birthplace is given as Plaitford, Wilts and there is a daughter Martha b 1844. Also ages are pretty much as I have given for 1861. Hope that is useful. Cheers, Patsy - New Zealand. > Dear List > > Could someone look up an 1861 census to find a Harry Bulpitt born in > Romsey in 1857. Harry BULPITT 14yrs Born Romsey Ploughboy Elizabeth 55yrs Wid Landford WIL Laundress William 20yrs Romsey Grocers Porter Charlotte 16yrs Romsey Dom Servant Tried every trick to locate them in 1861 especially as the father might have been alive then, but no luck. Surname must be recorded differently or they were overseas at the time. Even searched the 1861 for ALL Elizabeths born Landford 1816 +/- 5yrs but nothing. Might try the 1851 later as that may help locate the husband. Hope this assists a bit. Regards Allan
