Can you save the original file as a gedcom? Most Family Tree Programmes will allow you to import this type of file to save you typing the info all over again. By all means get a new program and benefit from its improved facilities, but consider continuing to use your old one under XP by running it in "Compatibility mode" alongside whatever new program you select. I run a few old programs in this way, without any problem at all. When you have installed XP, use the Help facility to search on "compatibility mode" (exclude the quotes, of course). It's very simple, and will enable you not to cut yourself off from the old program, and, of course all your old data. As a belt-and-braces operation, find a way of extracting your valuable data from you old program - as a CSV file, for example. Hi there Rather than buy software, there is free software on family latter day saints website. I have used this for years and it is great. I also use genpro which is shareware, downloaded free. I bought many of the commerical products but found them no better than the free stuff on line. Hello everybody I am researching my gg grandfather Henry HAWKINS who committed the crime of stealing six tame rabbits and a frock from John MARTIN and Elizabeth STEVENS in 1835 in the parish of Crondall, he was sentenced to 14 years and transported to Australia. On his marriage to Elizabeth SHANNON in 1858 Henry said he was from "Fawnham" in Surrey which I believe should be Farnham. I also believe he left a wife and daughter behind in Hampshire. Does anyone recognise Henry or maybe his family or can help me find his birth? With thanks Chris Randall
