    1. DEW(E)
    2. Deb Beban
    3. Hi, Am researching the DEW(E) family from the villages of Lockerley and Mottisfont. Benjamin DEWE married Ann (unknown surname) and so far I can find 3 children, James 1747,(my line) Sarah 1748 and Benjamin 1750. James (1747) next appears in Mottisfont marrying Martha MATTHEWS, 1773, St Andrew's Church, Mottisfont, (thanks to Rose) and their 7 children are all baptised there, Elizabeth 1774, James 1776 (my line), Ann 1778, Benjamin 1781, Mary 1786, Sarah 1787 and Martha 1790. James (1776) next pops up in Surrey marrying Louisa SMITH 1803 at Feltham. Does any lister have any of these people in their family tree? I would love to make a connection. Many thanks Deb, Wellington NZ

    2. Slightly corrected as a few rushed errors.. Linda and Tony Hello all an URGENT e-mail to to alert you all to the fact that Gosport Borough council are applying to the Diocese of the council to carry out a safety audit to graves in both the East AND West parts of Anns Hill cemetery - that means both side of the road old and newer cemetery areas. Based on experiences elsewhere this will no doubt mean that any headstones that are leaning or appear unsafe may be flattened. Plans and documents can be inspected either at the cemetery office or Leisre Services Department at Gosport Town Hall and to whom any representations should be made. Unfortunately it was dusk when Tony left and he had been locked into the cemetery but fortunately he managed to find a low enough wall for which to escape home! ))... The information regarding the cemetery appears to be recent and was discovered today. Linda and Tony

    3. -----Original Message----- Hello David You could try Hampshire Record Office to see if coroners reports for the district and period survive - alternatively also at HRO (or Colindale Newspaper library, London if easier for you), the Hampshire Telegraph may carry a report of either the death and/or the inquest. As regards the burial place, it could be anywhere as the death is registered in the district that the death occurred and not the abode or birthplace. If he was in the army, he may be in a military cemetery (Aldershot?) or may have been removed to his birthplace - of course he may have been buried where he died. 2. DAVID PARKER
    3. Hi David In 1901, the Durham Light Infantry had two regular Battalions. A search of the actual 1901 census could reveal what one was his. The 1st was in South Africa with a company of the 2nd and the balance of the 2nd ( formerly the 106th regiment of Foot, the Bombay light Infantry) was either in Mandalay, Aldershot or in transit.. Of course he could have been in a Military Hospital. Here are a few suggestions 1. You could obtain his service record from The National Archives, Ruskin Avenue, Kew, Richmond, Surrey TW9 4DU. Telephone: 020-8876 3444. Fax: 020-8878 8905. Website: http://www.nationalarchives.gov. 2. You could contact the Regimental museum at Durham Light Infantry Museum Collection DLI Museum, Durham Art Gallery Aykley Heads Durham City Co Durham DH1 5TU Region: North East Tel: 0191 3842214 Fax: 0191 3861770 dli@durham.gov.uk www.durham.gov.uk/dli 3. The records of the Corner's Inquest should be held at Hampshire County Council The Castle Winchester Hampshire SO23 8UJ You can enquire via e-mail through http://www.hants.gov.uk/contactus/feedback-form.html David ----- Original Message ----- From: "lonny1" <lonny1@ntlworld.com> To: <HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 13, 2006 2:55 PM Subject: [Ham] Help / Advice Needed > I would like to ask any Lister with a knowlege of Hampshire research resources for advice on what if any information could be available that may throw a little light on a Soldier who died in Harley Wintney in 1901. > The person in Question originated in Ireland before moving to Manchester / Liverpool so does not have direct Hampshire roots. > Below is information from his death certificate. > > Reg. 3. Hi! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this information. As I said, I have been looking for ages!! No wonder they weren't in the BMT's!! It was before 1837. Do you think that the original entry would have any other information on where David JONES lived or was born or his parents? I am hoping that he was the David JONES who was b. 1816 Chalton,Hants. Parents possibly David JONES and Martha ELDRIDGE. Where is Hants? Are parish records available for Charlton, Hants? Can anyone help with this?
