Hello Mike - does this refer only to Derbyshire - Would each county have their own list of strays? I know you don't have the answer but I suppose it is a good query for the different mailing lists we belong to - maybe they would consider doing the same? I know at one time they were giving names of strays from the census. Wouldn't it be grand if they did! so we could find that elusive stray! Amend my earlier 'nope!' - I can't get into the subscribed section either. At least we now know it is a glitch on their part and not us! Oh, if anyone stumbles over HEDG(E)COCKs as witnesses on any marriage or death certs I'll be pleased to hear from you. Steve Harper researching the following Hampshire surnames: Ayres, Baker, Blunden, Bull, Bye, Costen, Dibbs, Gritt, Hall, Humphries, Leavy, Pike, Pink, Rampton & Rawlins. Most of these lived in the Odiham/Basingstoke area, except the Romany ones (Bull, Gritt & Rawlins etc.) who moved a lot. I already have Sid barkers info on the latter.

I have a gggrandfather who was killed when he was run over by his wagon on the highway. The newspaper articles of the time all called him a "traveling showman". But on the death certificate, and on his children's birth certificates they call him a 'bricklayer'. I haven't sorted it all out, but I suspect that he was a "traveler" but his wifeish person found "bricklayer" more respectable. Elizabeth CROUCHER baptised (according to the IGI) c1711 at Mottisfont. She married James MATTHEWS 26 May 1737 at Timsbury (IGI again). My problem once again is the record was submitted by a member of the LDS Church and no further information is available so I don't know her parents or any siblings I have re checked using the batch number system of Hugh Wallis but still no record as to who Elizabeth's parents were. Please, please could I avail on the kindness of someone who may have access to the Mottisfont records to lookup her baptism for at least one parent so I can travel further in my quest. Of course it may not be 1711, could be dates either side. I can not order in Mottisfont filmed records to view for myself until my local FHC reopens after the summer break in February and I guess I am too impatient to wait until then:-) Many thanks, Deb Wellington NZ
