    3. Hi Ron, Burgess popped up in my family on my great grandmother's side - Mary Ann Burgess was my great grandmother's grandmother. Mary Ann married James Holland. I have Mary Ann as being born sometime around 1824 in Farnham, Surrey. Her father was John Burgess, and I believe her mother was a Sarah, but I'm not sure. I also believe she had a brother of James Burgess, who also married a Mary Ann (not sure of her maiden name, but she was born in Ireland). I have his bible, who lists when his Mary Ann died (Nov 1878) and also 3 kids, who have the last name of Sutton. I rec'd info from the 1871 Census in Farnham Surrey, and I figure these kids are actually kids of his lodger/laundress, Harriet Sutton. One of the children has the middle name of Burgess, so whether or not James Burgess was the father of these kids, I'm not certain. There are no other kids listed in the census with the last name Burgess, and the fact that I have his bible, makes me thing that James Burgess and his wife, Mary Ann, did not have kids of their own. Hence, the bible came to James Burgess's sister, Mary Ann, who married James Holland and then so forth down the line to reach my great grandmother and me! Confused? sharon ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~. When the bold branches Bid farewell to rainbow leaves - Welcome wool sweaters. ~B. 3. Cawte's - for information! It is good to see this interesting name mentioned again. The last time I was able to add my two penn'th was over a year ago on GR. This may not be of relevance to the main question but it is to do with a Cawte marriage on 2 Jun 1906 between Catherine A. Harris and Charles Cawte of Station Road, Corsham, Wilts., at Stroud, Gloucester, Q2 1906, Vol 6a, Page 799. This Charles Cawte, I believe to be, Charles George Cawte born Pitt Winchester, son of George D and Emma. In amongst my Aunts possessions was a delightful and exquisite four folded Wedding Cake Card which would have been given to my Grandmother, Mary Jane Woodman nee Baggott, who was living at Box, near Corsham Wiltshire, at the time. I will be pleased to supply a picture of the card, off list, to any relative of the Cawte's. I would also like to send, on receipt of substantial proof, the actual card to a direct relative of Charles (George) Cawte and Catherine A Harris. I can also share information with regard to the friendship between the happy couple and my grandmother, who was married two years before, and her family circle. 3. If you are near Winchester, visit the HRO (or your nearest LDS Family History centre if not near Winchester) where you will be able to order the films for the parish registers and various census years. This way you are able to check the primary sources rather than rely on internet or other researchers as a source. It does seem odd though that either a 3 yr old or 8 yr old was required (or legally allowed) to administer an estate.
