    3. Hello Karen we agree with you. The problem seems to be that lately in particular ie the last few weeks e-mails are being sent with the whole message including all the replies and this then results in repetitions over and over.. We have had e-mails from some listers asking if messages can be trimmed. We don't wish to discourage anyone posting but some are posting by just hitting the reply button. Messages need to be trimmed and altered in the subject heading as appropriate. We're just trying to be fair to everyone. Kind regards Linda and Tony

Could I respectfully suggest that it should be trimmed to "your reply and just enough of the original message to provide a context"? I find messages with absolutely no context e.g. "Sorry, I couldn't find him" can be less than helpful - particularly if the subject line is less than explicit. But definitely signatures, greetings and footers - both the Rootsweb one and the ones added by ISPs and anti-virus software should go! Thanks for all your efforts in the family history arena, Karen

    3. Wow, I find it fascinating that someone will ask someone else to look something up and the info is found...what sources do you have? And are they not available to everyone? I'm just trying to figure out why some can find the information easily whereas others can't. I put out a request regaring my family and it was answered, but I'm still unclear how the person replied had the info and I couldn't find it (she found the entry on 1871 census and on FreeBMD but I have yet to find the same info!). Just wondering... Sharon

    3. Hi Steve - unfortunately, the HGS has no control over what and when Genfair offer products - but pending some research going on at the moment, genfair are the only means available for credit card sales but they charge p&p on top. Direct sales by post from the HGS office, at FH fairs/open days, the HGS AGM (18 May) or the September open day are the preferred option as we don't have to pay a commission to Genfair. Regards Tony Knight HGS Publicity --------------- Thought you might be interested that Genfair don't as yet have the new CD up for Sale. The only one they are offering is Hampshire Marriage Index 1813-1837. HCD005 Regards Steve

    3. Dear Edna I have an Edward Knight leaving Southampton on 26th November 1948 heading for Halifax. He was then 43 years old and was a motor mechanic. His ship was the Aquitania - part of the Cunard White Star line. Agnes Knight, a 38 year old housewife left Liverpool bound for Halifax on 16th February 1949 with Adaline, David, Edna, and John Knight. Their ship was the Empress of France, part of the Canadian Pacific line. Hope that helps. I also noticed the following: ************************************ HCD005 (V2) Hampshire Marriage Index 1813-1837 Alphabetical listing by surname (bride or groom), or by parish, of Church of England, Quaker and Roman Catholic marriages in the county for the period 1813 to 1837. Excludes the Isle of Wight. In Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. Added 24 September 2006. Data in V2 has been re-indexed to facilitate easier searching. Added 25 January 2008 ************************************ Does this mean ony re-indexing or is there new info included ? I could have emailed the HGS but thought best to have a general discussion on this. Regards Francis Auckland, NZ

    3. Hi to all Digest mode listers. Please when replying to a digest message, can you remember to: 1. change the subject to something meaningful and not leave "Hampshire Digest" as the title 2. cut and snip the previous messages to just part of the message that you are replying to - some listers still use dial up at extra cost but it also creates havoc with searchinf the list archives.
