    3. Thomas KENNARD was born in 1859 in Southampton. He married Rosina GOLDING in 1876 when she was aged 16. He does not appear in the 1881, but Rosina is shown as "wife of a fireman in West India Co." Likewise he does not appear in the 1891 where she is shown as "Living on own means" There were children born viz Herbert 1880-1880, Emily 1879-, Thomas 1877- I cannot yet find any of them in the 1901 1. I known of the East India Company and the West India Regiment but what is the West India Company? 2. Would "fireman" be a firefighter or a stoker (Thomas' brother was in the Merchant Navy) 3 . Would a married woman 'Living on her own means" suggest a separation ? David

    3. I am hoping that someone can help me with regard to the details shown below which I have seen on ancestry uk. Hampshire: - Marriage License allegations, Bishop of Winchester, 1689-1837 Allegations for Marriage Licences in Dampshire, in the Registry of the Bishop of Winchester. Volume 3. County: Hampshire Country: England Cawte, Richard, of Upham, yeoman, 30, b., & Sarah Cussall, of Bishop's Waltham, 20, sp., at B. W., Twyford, or Trinity, Winchester, 10 Jan 1742 My Cawte family begins in Upham Hampshire and I have a Richard born in Upham on 20 March 1709 to Richard Cawte and Elizabeth Turner. If we take the date of 10 Jane 1742and this Richard supposedly 30 years of age, that would make him born 1712. I feel he must either be my Richard or a close relative. Is there any way I could find out more information? I haven't come across an entry like this before and am not sure how to proceed further. 3. This means he definitely did not play first-class i.e. "county cricket" for Hants (or any other county). He could have played at a minor level or perhaps just had a trial for the county. Marion, I've had a quick look at the Cricket Archive website (www.cricketarchive.com) - and didn't find anything there for a BEAUCHAMP playing for Hampshire. They are sure to have a web site. 1. [HAM] YOUNG family mystery
    2. Wenda Mintrum
    3. Has anyone 'out there' come across a JAMES YOUNG, born around 1799/1800, whose father was a Lieutenant on the Royal Navy? On censuses 1851/1871 his place of birth is given as Winchester, but there seems to be no trace of a baptism for him in the available registers for Winchester parishes. I have the certificate for his marriage to Ann Radley in 1840 in St James, Paddington, where his father is given merely as '--Young, Lt in Royal Navy'. It seems possible that James' father had died when he was quite small so he had never heard his first name...? (I have contacted the LMA in the hope of a copy of the parish register entry, in case there are further details) Eldest sons were named 'James Radley Young' right down to 1907 (where these became middle names, though the latest member of the family born 2004 is JRY again) so it is possible that the Lieutenant was also named James. I have have some records of a Lt James Young from the early 1800s - he disappears from the Navy List by 1812 - but no personal details that might give a clue to family. James was a painter, and moved to the north of England, where he died. His greatgrandson moved back to the south, to Dorset, and was designer for Poole Pottery. HIS grandson is a friend who lives near us in Devon, and would love to know more about his ancestors. I have reached a brickwall with the Lieutenant. Any help gratefully received! Wenda
