    3. Derek's suggestion lead me to the 1881 census, where I carried out a search for references for "Dick Leg" finding none. So I carried out searches for "Dick" and "Leg" also without success, and then finally for "Alley" of which there were over a dozen in Portsmouth but none any thing like Dick Leg, so wherever it was in 1861 it was not there in 1881. 3. Hi Edna, I have searched the The Portsmouth Encyclopedia which is of that period and there was no reference to 'Three Dicks Alley" The only similar references are to the Three Cups Pub, The Three Tuns Pub/Tavern, The Three Crowns Pub, The Three Guns Pub and Three Tuns Alley. There are 127 references to "Alley" but none with anything similar to your search. 3. Hi Linda and Tony This is helpful but I have a bit of a quandary. When John died in 1847, he left everything to nephews and nieces - nothing to any children. Perhaps none of them survived? His will states John was a Foreman of Engineers at Woolwich dockyard - do you think a shipwright could have become a foreman of engineers? I appreciate your help - I have had a break from family history as I lost my husband in October but am now trying to get my life back on track and this hobby helps take my mind off things. James Keeping and Ann Frampton married at Milton in 1798 and I suspect that is her parents. I'd also like to find James' baptism if possible and see who his parents were. Many thanks.
