I shall send you the image off-list just in case. Regards, Angie Hi Angie, Up until Nellie's surname was spelt ALBURY. That is the spelling on her wedding cert. However I have not been able to find anyone of that name born during 18700-1880 I've had to try all variations of that name. Just recentlty the name NELLY AULBERY has cropped up that appears to tick most of the boxes. I've traced her from 1881 and 1891 census and now need to find where she was in 1901. She appears to be somewhat reluctant to appear on that census. Thank you also for the copy of the birth index. Her christian name has never been in doubt so unfortunately that is not her. My main thrust now is that missing census with sideway glances at the married & death indexes. I fully appreciate all the interest and help you've given me. Thanks David for the info....unfortunately, no I do not have any info re: Barkers in the Hants area - I was just surprised to see my maiden name pop up on the list! The Barkers that I'm researching were in Alberta as early as 1888 and possibly earlier. I'll have to check out the ships lists to see if I can track them down, but like you said, there are LOTS of barkers, and finding the right person/couple might be tricky. I'm on the Hants list due to researching the COX, HOLLAND and HILL families from around Fleet, Crookham and Farnham (surrey). In the 1891 Census, most Barkers were concentrated in Yorkshire (where it appeared shortly after the Conquest), West Essex and South Cambridgeshire - however they were, and are, to be found everywhere, BUT very few in Hampshire then. Does the fact that you e-mailed the Hants. list with a number of places near the Wiltshire border mean that you have some information about the Barker's English roots? Regards, David Fo

Hi Pat, Yes she married John Stephen Brown in 1901 prior going to the US. He was my gfather's eldest brother. Nellie's father is down as Edward - Butler- deceased. I checked that out and the only result I came up with was an Edward Dec. 'Policeman. It doesn't get any better !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To add to David's answer - These legal documents were cut with wavy, zig-zag or simply torn along lines, were indented to prevent forgery. The holders of each document had a check of authenticy by matching the indentations. These became known as **indentures**. As in "A contract binding one party into the service of another for a specified term." Hi Listers Returning after nearly a year away from my Hampshire genealogy, I am wondering if someone can tell me if there is in existence any settlement deeds or appropriate documentation for folk moving from Basingstoke to Bishops Sutton. I am trying to establish if WILLIAM KNIGHT baptised 1759 in Basingstoke, son of RICHARD and RUTH KNIGHT, could be the same WILLIAM KNIGHT who married ELIZABETH ANDREWS in Bishops Sutton in 1782 as his age on death matches plus familial names are interesting. Hoping for some enlightenment. Kind regards; ED. Researching in Hampshire CULL, DYMOTT, GOODALL, GUY, KNIGHT, MASTERS, MERRETT, SHERIN and TUCKER.

Was her maiden name ALBURY, and try different spellings? Could her first name be Ellen or Helen? Try: http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl Try: www.familysearch.org also for Census '81.
