    3. In 1899 the publican, should that be Inn keeper, was Harry C. Moore, New Inn, Rumbolds Hill, Midhurst. The nearest that I can find today is The Wheatsheaf, Wool Lane but it seems to have a front onto the main road, maybe I am wrong in this. Rumbolds Hill seems to be the section of the main road between the Petersfield Road and June Lane. http://londonpublichouse.com/SussexPubs/Sussex1899/Sussex1899-N.shtml Rumbolds Hill Midhurst West Sussex GU29 9DA There is a cemetery that I found on the map, Midhurst Burial Authority, Cemetery Lodge, Carron Lane, Midhurst, West sussex GU29 9LF They have a telephone number which I used but got an answering machine with the following message "This number does not take incoming calls". Useful. 3. To: Hampshire list In Bepton (a very small village), there is the Park House Hotel (www.parkhousehotel.com) and the Country Inn (www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/29636/Country_Inn/Bepton). I believe both of these have changed names in the recent past, so either may formerly have been the New Inn and you could probably ask them direct. Alternatively, go to www.city-visitor.com/midhurst/inns.html, where you can see a list of pubs and hotels in and around Midhurst. I don't know of a New Inn but I have a sneaking suspicion that there was one in living memory (I've lived in the area since the 1950s). I'll ask around. Best wishes Tony, Petersfield On 21/04/2008, liverpud <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Hi, An Inquest was held for my great-grandfather, William James Hellyer (1854-94) formerly of Southsea > in the New Inn on 24 May 1894. > > Does the place still exist? > > Thank you, > > Edna - Ottawa

    3. :-) It appears to be not unusual for answers to reach the list before the question pop up - illogical though that may seem! though someone has to have read them to have been in a position to post a response! perhaps ether-travel varies depending on the amount of turbulence en route :-) As far as the Highlands are concerned, I'm fully of the opinion that my e-mails get off and hoof it up over the mountains to reach me, sometimes getting so lost amongst the peaks & bealachs that they never do make it to base! :-( le durachd fionnghal > Crumbs our e-mail was sent yesterday and stayed in cyberspace for 24 hours.. > Linda and Tony __________________________________________________________ Sent from Yahoo!
