Rosalind - do you have a scan of this? If so, send it to me at [email protected] and I'll have a go at deciphering it. If not, do you have the internet source address it came from (as I can't find it)? Hello This is my first entry and hoping someone is researching the Trigg and Prater families from Kingsclere/Ecchinswell and Odiham. Robert Prater b1800 Kingsclere and Elizabeth Stocker, b.Kingsclere lived in Kingsclere. Robert Prater's parents and his 9 brothers and sisters continued to live in and around Kingsclere.Third daughter Mary Prater married Daniel Trigg from Potbridge/Odiham. Daniel Trigg was the youngest child of John and Sarah Trigg of Odiham. All contacts welcome. Happy to share what information I have already collected. Diane Evans - Western Australia.

I often refer to the Genuki Gazeteer - http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/Gazetteer/ - when trying to decipher place names. I can usually make out the first letter or two, or the last few letters, and then if you have the county, you can do a search on partial words/place names. By process of elimination and looking at the original transcript, I've had pretty good success in figuring it out. Hi Gail and Ken I loved this thought too - except I was wondering if they all enjoyed feeding the ducks as children, as did my daughter in the early 1990s. Emsworth was one of our favourite outings when we lived in Hampshire - she wasn't pleased when we moved to Devon, because we couldn't find anywhere to feed the ducks! Simple pleasures. The site http://www.plimsoll.org/ has some good material on Southampton, especially the Street Directories. My father was born at 9 St Mark's Rd in 1930. In the 1931 directory this is CH Lewis, fried fish shop. This confirms the family tale that my father's parents lived in a room above a fish & chip shop. I wonder if the building is still there. Can anyone help ? Many thanks. Francis Auckland, NZ

Have a look on Google maps. It looks as though St Marks Rd has become a small cul de sac off Nicholls Rd. Most of this area has been redeveloped in the past 20 years, under inner city slum clearance schemes, so I doubt if the original building is still there.
