    2. Yvonne Courtine
    3. Hello I wonder if there is SKP who could do a lookup for me regarding a marriage between THOMAS BARNSLEY MAYO and FANNY WINDEBANK which took place in Portsea,Q4 1870, ref: volume2b, page 803. I am hoping to find out Thomas' father's name and, possibly his age. He seems to have remarried, also in Portsea, Q4 1876 to a ROSINA TAYLOR, ref. 2b page 864. I would be tremendously grateful for any help. Thank you Yvonne in wet and windy Wales

    3. We have a relative married 1740 Hampshire born abt 1718. Does anyone know if it was the rule that when they married they should have been baptised before the marriage was allowed in the Church of England. This guy had an alias which he dropped a few years after marriage but we cannot find any baptism for him to say where he came from or parents names. I accept he possibly was illegitimate but they were normally baptised. Thanks Hilda

    3. Looking for help. Hoping someone will know of this instance. One day after April 1941 a survivor from Greece visited my mother who then lived in Beaconsfield Road, Fareham. In his hand he held out a photograph of soldiers resting under a headge waiting for evacuation before Greece was overrun with the enemy. That photograph showed my father Leonard George Morris, age 37 years, an Officer, who was standing, leaning on his rifle, in full kit and smiling into the camera. That would be the last photo ever taken of my Father who did not survive and who is buried in Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece. How grateful my mother would have been to that survivor. She died in Australia. My point is, that survivor would have known my mother and where she lived. I do not know who he was but he would have been a soldier in the Royal Army Service Corps. Ha anyone ever heard this account in their own family in the Fareham area. If so, please contact me. I and my siblings have tried to find out all we can about this lovely warm Father as we never knew anything till in recent years after extensive research as to what happened to my father all those brave men who died. Kind regards. April nee Morris. New Forest

    3. Hi there Wendy. IGI has a baptism of a Robert SHERIN in Portsea in 1822 - parents Robert and Mary Ann. This is a possible family in 1841: Cumberland St, St Mary's, Southampton. Robert SHERIN 50 Shoemaker Mary 38 Mary 19 Robert 17 George 13 Jane 10 Fanny 7 George 8 mths. All listed as born in county Robert may be in Andover in 1851: 29 Grove St Robert SHERIN 23? B Southampton Ann 26. B ? Robert 5. B Brighton, Sussex George 3. B Andover, Hampshire Ann 1 B Andover, Hampshire. Robert's parents appear to be next door. In 1861 Robert Snr and Mary are back in Southampton. Your Robert appears to be in South Stoneham: Robert SHERIN 36 Stonemason. B England Ann 37 B Hound? Hampshire Robert 16 Labourer. B ? Hampshire George 14 Errand Boy. B Hampshire Ann 12 John 10 Eliza 8 Sarah 7 Edward 2 Albert ? mths All children listed as born Hampshire but image is difficult to read. I have been unable to find the entry on Ancestry. Ann appears to have died in 1867, registered in Croydon. In 1881 the family is in Bermondsey in Surrey - Robert now gives his age as 46! Robert SHERRIN 46 Stone Mason. B Southampton Sarah 36. B Ringwood, Hampshire Clara 11. B Chartford, Kent Samuel 7. B St Pancras, Middlesex Albert 6. B St Pancras, Middlesex. And this may be Robert in 1891: St Mary Robert SHERIN? 68 Stone Mason. B Southampton Walter 6. B Southampton There is an added note which looks like 'Wife left today'. I don't see the others in 1891. The son Robert from the first marriage appears to be in Lambeth in most censuses to 1901. Hope this is useful, and hope it is the correct family for you. Apologies if you have this already of course. 3. Good morning! I've just found the marriage of my grandmother's step-sister, Elsie A. HILLIER to andrew C. DILLON at Christchurch in 1917. Elsie was born in Blaina, Monmouthshire in 1897, and, following the death of her father, William George HILLIER, her mother, Sarah Matilda (nee BOYCOTT), married my widowed great grandfather, George COOKSEY, in 1908. Does anyone have an interest in either Andrew DILLON or Elsie HILLIER please? If so 'd very much like to hear from them. Kindest regards to all, Jon

I have found 7 children from their marriage from census, their last child Mary Sophia nee STARKE married my great great grandfather (2nd marriage for both of them) I would love to know more about Jane Kinchin. 3. Hi Gail By that year, most of the churchyards were full and municipal cemeteries such as Mile End (opened 1831)and Kingston were being used (Milton did not open until about 1910). Some burials were still in churchyards (family plots etc) and so it is a bit of a needle in a haystack. You could try the Portsmouth Bereavement Office at Milton Cemetery (search list archives for the email address) and they may be able to help. Not one of Tony's by the way - his were all fine upstanding citizens from Banbury and Birmingham. The Sussex lot were a fringe part of Linda's tree. I started checking all John Baggs and found him in the census and identified him because of his wife. Both said they were born in 1885 and yet he was actually born in 1884 just after his father died. Said no children living or dead so will be earching out the birth certificates now for their child or children as so many of you searched out and found for me.
