Hi Helen, Why was Hugh born in Indian Territory, do you know? I am interested, though I'm nearly positive we don't have a connection. One of my Hamiltons was abducted by an Indian squaw in Pa. around 1810--that's as close as we get. I'm always interested in the Native American connections. Eva Dayle, I am from Baker/Hamilton stock, my Baker's left Mt Ida, AR and went to SKULLYVILLE. IT in 1879 - caught as INTRUDERS in 1881 and went westerly, down, west & up through IT country. LAND in my genealogy studies has been the foremost reasons that our forefathers moved, moved and moved - the grass was always greener on the other side - :-) There were 32 landholders in AR during the 1800s - I have finally traced mine from the potatoe famine in 1848 to M'boro, AR where he finally died after the trials and tribulations of the CW/CSA. As land opened up "thar she goes" seemed to be the way of the frontier. You like Native Americans, as I do, (when you are a part of it you must follow) you must(?) follow the history trail. I know that the "Black" Irish, Dutch were only part Indians which were the scrounge of the earth - but it was all right to be part black 'cause the South made it okay - they were them................................ Our HISTORY TALES don't tell it all, so if you is, then ya gotta check it out................. Didja know, that during the "potato famine" in Ireland - the largest contributor to their plight was the CHOCTAW INDIANS - far more than the British contribution................... Sorry for my soap box. Ken Baker, Santa Maria, CA Eva Dayle Zippay wrote: > Hi Helen, > Why was Hugh born in Indian Territory, do you > know? I read this about "Black Irish" being part Indian. I am "Black Irish," but my people came from Ireland, and intermarried down the line with the Portugese or Spanish when Spanish ships wrecked and survivors came ashore, later breeding with the Irish. I have no Indian at all in me. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eva Dayle Zippay" <evadayle@yahoo.com> To: <HAMILTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 09, 2002 4:42 PM Subject: Re: [HAM] Re: HAMILTON-D Digest V02 #283 > Hi Helen, > Why was Hugh born in Indian Territory, do you > know?
