Hamilton, age 92, former Zanesville, Ohio resident, died March 12 at Englewood Hospice House in Port Charlotte, FL. Mr. Hamilton was born in Taylor Station/Columbus, Ohio, on July 6, 1916, to Robert and Margaret (Roll) Hamilton. He moved to Zanesville, OH, at an early age. He had been a resident of Punta Gorda, FL, since 1978, moving there from Norwalk, Ohio and Newark, OH. He was a 1935 graduate of Lash High School in Zanesville, OH, and attended Meredith Business College there. Mr. Hamilton was a retired salesman and had worked for the Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, OH since 1935. From 1968-1975 he worked for Shurlow Tile and Carpet Company in Grand Rapids, MI. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and was awarded a victory medal. He was a machinist's mate 2nd class on the destroyer, U.S.S. Flint, in the Third Pacific Fleet. Mr. Hamilton was a Presbyterian and attended church in Punta Gorda, Florida. He belonged to: the Willys-Knight-Overland Registry Antique Car Club, the Elks Lodge No. 2606 of Punta Gorda, Florida, and the Lafayette Masonic Lodge of Zanesville, OH. Mr. Hamilton was a former member of: the Charlotte County Concert Band, the Swing Kings Dance Orchestra, and the Alligator Swingers of Alligator Mobile Home Park. Mr. Hamilton loved and was interested in his family, friends, music (he played saxophone, clarinet, flute, and cello in bands and orchestras), antique cars (he restored several), bowling, golf, dancing, cards, dominoes, and crossword puzzles. Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Claire, in 1975; his second wife of 21 years, Freda, in 1997; and his brothers, Robert and Perry. He is survived by his children, Susan DuChateau of Avon Park, FL, Michele (David) Livingston of Nineveh, IN, J. Lynne Parsons of Oak Park, MI; his step-son, William (Patricia) Powell of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Putnam Presbyterian Church, 467 Woodlawn Ave., Zanesville, OH on Friday, July 17, (time of service to be determined at a later date). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: Transitions, Inc., P.O. Box 156, Zanesville, OH 43702 or Putnam Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 672, Zanesville, OH 43701.
