TIA, I hope you get a good answer because I have the same question but my HAMILTON, James W. was b. 1827 County Tyrone, Ireland; came to NY in 1848 (potatoe famine) and showed up in 1861 joining the confederate in Little Rock AR. In researching AR, I discovered about 31 HAMILTONS owning property throughout in the 1800s. I feel the Irish stuck together and what was more comforting than their own relatives - unless there was a young indian maiden to enhance his frontiermanship. For a spot of the Irish, I would like to point out that during the 'potatoe famine' one of the largest contributors to their plight was the CHOCTAW NATION. I suppose that's another story.
