I am forwarding the below information for those interested in the Woodend-Strabane area. Ken Hamilton/Sparks Baker, Santa Maria, CA _____ From: Thompson, Elizabeth [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, February 03, 2006 2:15 AM To: Ken Baker Subject: RE: Hamiltons at Woodend, Strabane Dear Mr. Hamilton, Thank you for your e-mail regarding family research. This office holds marriage records for the Strabane District dating from 1 April 1845 for non-Roman Catholic marriages and from 1 January 1864 all marriage records are available. However, I read in your e-mail that William Hamilton from Woodend, Strabane did not marry. Birth and death registers are available for the period on and after 1 January 1864 from the General Register Office, Belfast. Their web site address is: www.groni.gov.uk This web site will give you fees payable to have searches carried out. You are probably already aware that the surname "HAMILTON" is a common name in this area. I have asked a member of staff in another Council Department to check burial records that are held by Council for burials in Strabane. I have been provided with the following: Strabane Cemetery William J Hamilton, Church Street, Strabane Date of Death 3/3/1941 aged 73 William Hamilton, Edymore, Strabane Date of Death 22/10/1961 aged 84 Patrick Street Cemetery (located within the town), Strabane William Hamilton Date of Death 15/10/1845 Also his wife Hannah Date of Death 1/7/1817 The above record was taken from a booklet published by Irish World, Dungannon and they recorded the inscriptions from tombstones in the cemetery. Also there is a possibility that burials of the Hamilton family may have taken place at a Church Cemetery and therefore Council would not have a record of these. I am not aware that you have checked the 1901 Census records regarding the residents in Woodend at that period, if not if may be helpful to check these. I hope that this information is helpful to you and I take the opportunity of wishing you success with your family research. Best regards, E.
