His father is said to be Avery Hamilton. His mother is identified in family records only as Mrs. Avery Hamilton. James became a philospher, Baptist minister, and professor at several colleges, including Brown in Providence RI. He married Carrie Gifford of Newport RI. He died in 1894 in Coronado Beach Florida according to family history but officials in that county can't confirm his death. Since James is my great-grandfather, I would like to know more about him.
