Do they generally originate from England, Scotland and Ireland?

I believe that the ancestral home of the Hamiltons is near Glasgow, Scotland, in the lowlands of Scotland. There are many Hamiltons in N. Ireland too as that whole area was at one time a giant sea kingdom, with lots of passage back and forth between Scotland and Ireland, as commerce and the winds of politics changed.
