Sorry, Lee....right name; wrong period. Of course, doesn't hurt to ask. My James M. was born in 1861, his father (Joseph A.) being the WBTS soldier. Some suggestions that you've probably already searched in Ala. Land records, probate records, church records In Florida~ county marriage records (I'm at work so don't know when they started there) What unit did James M. fight with? (if you need me to look it up, I can) ~ Roll Call records [which may reveal him as wounded or dying], pension record [under the possibility they weren't divorced]. As my suggestions are "long shots," let me know if I can help you further (if I helped at'all). I'm doing research on my Hamilton family and like a lot of others I've hit a road block. You mentioned a James Monroe Hamilton NC-Fla. I'm trying to connect R.P. Hamilton b Va ab 1808 wife Elizabeth b ab 1809 Va, with children James M. Hamilton b 1829 Va., William N. b 1831 and Frances b 1848. The family moved to Ala in around 1830. James M. Hamilton married Mary E ab 1855 and several of their children were born in Fla., Thomas O., 1832, William G. b 1861 and Samuel P. b 1863. I'm pretty certain James M. moved to Fla and married Marry E.(?). The family returned to Ala during the civil war and James M. Hamilton disappears. I know he served in the civil war but can't find a record of him being killed. But rather I feel he and Mary E. divorced. I know its a long shot but does any of this line show up in your research? Thanks for your time.
