I am on a small and fixed retirement income and family genealogy is the main thing I have to look forward to doing. I think they have us over a barrel, if we want the information. I will stay with them, but I don't like it. When I first started with them one world tree was free and one could get all kinds of information from them without all these extra dollar expenses. There were other sites and now all seem to have merged with them. I really don't know where else one could go to and have access to all the information they do have, so I guess I am stuck. Question: Why do you ask???????? The reason I asked: I have been a subscriber for years. As we speak, they are changing the individual subscriptions (US Census, Historical Newspapers, UK Census, etc.) to a deluxe package that you make an annual payment of $299.00 for everything they offer. My two complaints are 1) I can not afford the lump sum all at once (I am in school and not working for a time) and I can no longer pick and choose the individual subscriptions. They offer the monthly payment plan of $34.95 but that adds up to $419.40 per year. I have written Ancestry.com. Our situations are examples of why this has become more difficult to afford. Thanks for the reply - Candace :--)) ----- Original Message ----- From: "M & E Lee" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 10:31 AM Subject: Re: [HAM] Ancestry.com > I am on a small and fixed retirement income and family genealogy is the main > thing I have to look forward to doing. > > I think they have us over a barrel, if we want the information. I think $$ is a big issue with all of us; and is the reason we went piece Meal ( Iknow I did). To hit me with a $300 program, I would have second thoughts. I had a few of the programs and I didn't use it more than once Or twice....waste...............Now that I've got the whole works (kinda free) I know I have to work the devil out of 2006 and get all I can - if I can accomplish that then, it will actually be inexpensive. I gave a Genealogist $300 to find my grgr grandparents in Ireland - their info Only gave me a foot in the door; and it was later that I understood why my foot was there. We mature every time we search for our ancestors and if we keep looking In every corner, we'll find something (that's kinda obvious) I am more proud of my ancestry: Irish, Indian, English and no telling what else, than I can shake a stick at. I'm amazed at the History & Geography that is unfolding. That's opening up a new tangent in our education system.
