    1. [HAM] HAMILTON in Maryland and Ohio
    2. Hi All, Where are all the Hamiltons out there? Not many emails for such a common name. My Sarah HAMILTON was born in Maryland in about 1794. It is a total guess on my part that she might have been Sarah SCARFF who married George HAMILTON. She had at least two sons, Owen and Levi and was in Falls Township, Hocking County, Ohio in 1840 and Monday Creek Township, Perry County, Ohio in 1850. They are next to each other. Owen stayed in Ohio and Levi moved north to Michigan. Can anyone help me prove or disprove my idea? Carol

Author: PhyllisPorter161 Surnames: Hamilton - Langley - Anderson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.hamilton/6964/mb.ashx Message Board Post: David Langley died 1822 in Edgefield Dist. SC. His will names his wife Sarah, his mother-in-law Mary Anderson and his "wife's son James Hamilton". His will also says that "I give to James Hamilton after my wife's death or marriage 50 acres of land to be laid out of that left my wife ajoining of Sanders/Landers Hamilton's land". One of the witneses of the will is Alexander Hambleton/Hamilton. Who was Sarah's first husband Mr. Hamilton, and when did he die? A James Hamilton died in 1802 in Fairfield, SC and Sarah Hamilton was the Administrator. Is this the Sarah (probably Anderson) Hamilton who married David Langley? 1. [HAM] Fall Cleanup: Time to rake in new leaves for your trees
    2. Laura & Joe
    3. Considering the season, I have decided it is time to stir up some of the "leaves of our trees". Starting now, through the next week, let's see if we can "sweep up" some ancestors and "fall" through our brick walls! Here is how this will work: 1) Write a NEW EMAIL with a NEW SUBJECT LINE related to YOUR RESEARCH 2) Give the SURNAME in upper case letters 3) Give any pertinent given names, dates and locations. Please have these related to HAMILTON ancestors in some way! 4) If someone doesn't pay attention to my instructions, don't flame them. We all make mistakes! 5) If you reply to someone's query, use their subject line so we can follow their thread. Remember to send it to the list and the sender! 6) Most important as the Boy Scouts say KISMIF! (Keep it simple, make it fun!) List maintainer is DigMyPast@msn.com

    3. Jane: The mtDNA test that females can get follows all female lines; you have the same or similar mtDNA as your mother, grandmother, etc., along an all female line. In our culture this means that the surnames along this line change virtually every generation. Thus, mtDNA studies are essentially useless if one is trying to follow a particular surname as we are in our Hamilton DNA project. Do not get me wrong; mtDNA investigations can be useful for some purposes but not for following a specific surname and its derivation.
