The recent correspondence on this family seems to be a wee bit strange. A generation is a variable figure but if we use the generally accepted term of 25 years then 30 generations would take us back a total of 750 years or to the year 1240. Even by allowing for longer generations of 25 years it is reasonable to assume that 30 generations would have occurred in this millennium and therefore each and every one of us has had over a billion direct ancestors since the year 1000. The estimated population of England, Ireland and Scotland was between 2 and 4 million people. Trevor Hamilton
John and Jasper, I descend from William Pickens (1748-1835) and Jane Hamilton (1758-1839), who marrried 29 Feb 1776 in Abbeville District South Carolina and moved to Middle Tennessee in 1807. Jane Hamilton was the youngest child of Archibald Hamilton (1704-1778) and Frances Calhoun (1703-aft 1778). Jasper, your Major Andrew Hamilton was a son of Archibald and Frances. I have Archibald as the son of Audley Harrison Hamilton (1677-1762) and Eleanor Adams (1687- 1748). John, that may not nail him down but it is what I have found on Ancestry and other sources. I have Audley H as the son of James H. Hamilton (1630-1652) and Catherine Leslie (1638-1700) , James H the son of Frederick Hamilton (1590-1647) and Sidney Vaughan (1590-1661), and Frederick the son of Claud Hamilton (1543-1621) and Margaret Seton (1550-1616). Both of you probably have all of this and much more. I would be happy to receive information from you, especially your 1000 year record, Jasper. Judith Hamilton (Audley's supposed sister) and her husband Alexander Calhoun had a son named Audley. Here is a reference to Judith and Alexander's family. http://www.archive.org/stream/MN5034ucmf_0/MN5034ucmf_0_djvu.txt Clogher clergy and parishes [microform] being an account of the clergy of Clogher, from the earliest period, with historical notices of the several parishes, churches, etc. 1698. Alexander Colhoun appears (V.B.) ; son of William 0., of Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone, ent. T.C.D. June 7, 1680, aged 17, B.A. 1684, was C. Donacavey 1694-9, C. Dromore, 1694, C. Kilskeery 1700. Seems to have been C. Clogherny circa, 1698 ; m. Judith, dau. of James Hamilton, and sister of Dr. Andrew H., Preb. of Kilskeery, and had issue (1) Major William'; (2) Rev. Alex. ; (4) Audley ; (6) James, grandfather of John Caldwell Colhoun, Vice-President, U.S.A. (See Armagh Clergy, p. 179) He d. in 1717. See also App. IV. The name Audley is very unusual for the Hamilton family in Ireland, so I find it funny that it should just pop into the line. I think his name might be the key to making a connection to the Irish line from which he and his father, Archdeacon James Hamilton came from. The DNA has given us a good start, but so far no papertrail. Lainey Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you know why the name was changed to Debear rather then going with Hamilton? The Mitchell family of Ann Mitchell seem to be in show business and related to Thomas Abthorpe Cooper who was known as the Father of American Theater. They also seem to have a connection to Aaron Burr and the Richmond Theater in Richmond VA. Jefferson Davis married President Zacrey Taylor's daughter. Zacrey Taylor was related to Thomas Sim Lee who son John Lee was very close friends of General Lafayette. John Lee was a cousin of Gen Robert E Lee. Now the issue is the relationships of both General Lafayette and Alexander Hamilton to George Washington. Records clearly show that George Washington considered both men as his adopted sons. Then Robert E Lee married George Washington's real adopted granddaughter. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
