My father is Group B, H-045. He shares a mutation at 464b with the Lisdivin Hamilton that no one else, except his Hamilton cousins, in Group B has. My paper research had already lead me to believe that we were some how related to the Ballyfatton Hamiltons, then the Lisdivin Hamilton joined the study and confirmed my hypothesis. I have not had much success researching the Hamiltons of Priestfield. Have you seen this internet site? http://www.breadyancestry.com/index.php?id=34 There is a scholarly work under publications... this quote is from chapter three: The third freeholder in Dunnalong was Hugh Hamilton of Lisdovin - present-day Lisdivin - and he was a man of some substance. This Hugh Hamilton was the son of John Hamilton of Priestfield in Blantyre. Is this consistent with the research you mention? Is anyone on the List descended from this Thomas Hamilton? Do you know if anyone in the Hamilton DNA test group is descended from this Thomas Hamilton? HISTORY OF GREEN COUNTY, WISCONSIN, 1884: "Thomas Hamilton lives on section 34. He has a farm of 240 acres, with fine buildings. When quite young, his father George Hamilton, moved to Edgar Co., Ill., where he died in 1842. When sixteen years of age (1838), Thomas took his fortune in his own hands. Leaving home he went to Winnebago Co., Ill., worked at farm work until 1842, when he came to Green county. The first few years he worked summers in the villages of the county, and in the winter in the pineries, running in the season on rafts below; thus he was occupied until he was married in 1845. His wife was Levanche Randall. By this marriage six children were born, five of whom are living--George, residing in Brodhead; Thomas, of Winnebago Co., Ill.; Alexander, in the same county; Emma, wife of Myron Bliss, of Winnebago Co., Ill.; Eva, wife of F. Burke, resides at Virginia City, Nev.; Lenora, wife of Isaac Davis. She died at the residence of her father in February, 1875. In March, 1866, Mr. Hamilton was bereaved by the death of his wife. He was again united in marriage with Mrs. Jane Forbes, widow of Isaac Forbes. She was living at the time of marriage in Davids township, Stephenson Co., Ill. By her first marriage she had two children--Emma and William. Emma married Mr. Hamilton's son George. William Forbes is married and lives in Brodhead. Thomas Hamilton has by his second wife five children--Walter E., born in 1868; Josephine E., born in 1870; Kate Maud, born in 1873; Scott, born in 1878; and Eleanor, born in 1881." Greetings List: I am researching the Hamilton's of this small locality in Lanark. I've been trying to follow the land records in order to establish relationships. Most of the lands of Glengavel, Torfoot, Drumclog, Linbank, Kype, Hareshaw, Lethame and Carnduff were owned by James Hamilton of Fynnart, the "Bastard of Arran." According to the House of Hamilton, he received these lands under the Great Seal on 26 June 1533. He also received Kittymure. (III Mag. Sig., 1291/2) On October 8th, 1539, he received the lands of Glengavill. (III Mag. Sig. 2030) His lands were forfeited for high treason in 1540 and he was executed. Some of his lands were briefly redistributed to others, but on 2 July 1547, he had confirmation to himself and his spouse Helen Cuninghame of the 32 merk lands of Glengavill and the 5 merk lands of Drumclog and Brintsnab. The brief, temporary holder of his father's lands was supposedly Thomas Hamilton of Torrance, who is shown in occupation of part of the lands of Glengavill and Kype 14 January 1545. Sir Andrew Hamilton of Goslington just across the stream of Kytpe Water, was brother to Sir James of Fynnart and they were both sons of Sir James Hamilton of Stonehouse. I am descended of Hamilton of Kype, the line that produced Gavin Hamilton, friend and mentor of Robert Burns. In 1609, John Hamilton of Kyp appeared as a debtor of Sir Robert Hamilton of Goslington. Just looking at the land ownership, it seems to me that "our" Hamilton's are descended from the Stonehouse Hamilton's through Sir James Hamilton of Fynnart, with some possible intermingling with the Hamilton's of Goslington. I would appreciate joining the conversation with others researching these lines. I just joined the list today, but have lot's to share - if you do. Cordially, Edgar M. Hamilton-Portwood At the residence of the bride's father, March 25th, Mr. James Hamilton and Miss Emma Portwood; Rev. A. O. Rial officiating. The groom is one of Ennis' most popular and prosperous farmers. The bride one of Kaufman's most charming and beautiful girls, whose place will be sadly missed by her many friends. The bride was elegantly attired in golden seal brown silk, with hat, gloves and shoes to match. The costume was a gift of her uncle Mr.D. Portwood of Fort Worth. The hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Portwood will long be remembered, and the wedding repast was fit for the gods. The presents were both useful and beautiful. The many friends of the young couple wishes them a long and prosperous life of double blessedness. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am interested in the Hamiltons from Massachusetts. I haveresearched my husband's line back to George Washington Hamilton bornabout 1812, with shows him born in Ma. on one census and on anothercensus it shows SC. I think George lived close to a William, which waseither an uncle or father. But I have been unable to get any further. Did any of your Hamiltons from Ma. go to SC. in early 1800's Williamwould have been born about 1780. Both lived in Coosa County Alabama. -- "This is what the past is for! I have been having trouble finding any information on James, his father William Hamilton and his father Levi Hamilton. I have contacted town and county clerk's offices and historical societies and no one seems to have any information other than vital records. I was wondering if there were any decendants of Jefferson Hamilton out there who may have researched the family history and would be willing to help. Any information would be most appreciated. Then he would need to sign one or two releases to allow the data to be shared. The person paying the fee would then typically get all the results and comparisons and follow up with matching parties, so he would have nothing else to do.
